Documentation: Content Server

The Content Server for Your Project

About the Content Server

The Content Server is the central hub where you manage all relevant data for your project that will be displayed in your apps. This is where you gather and organize all content, including text, images, and other media essential for your project.

The Content Server is operated through the Mobile Learning Cloud and remains accessible as long as you use the cloud. The apps are configured to automatically connect to your individual Content Server to fetch the latest content.

Initial Setup of the Content Server

Before using the Content Server, it must be set up once through the project settings. This is done via the Actions link on the project page.

The following requirements must be met:

  • You need to have an active subscription plan
  • You need to select a server location
The currently available server locations are:

  • Frankfurt
  • London
  • New York

Starting and Stopping the Content Server

The Content Server should typically run continuously. However, you have the option to manually stop and restart the server. Note that when the server is stopped, no content can be loaded or modified. Apps that are already installed will retain their loaded data, but new app installations and data updates will not be available until the server is restarted.

To stop or start the server, use the Actions link in the respective project.

Logging into the Content Server

After setting up the Content Server, you will receive an email with a password. You can use this to log into the server’s administration interface, accessible via the server details in the Actions link.

Features and Use of the Content Server

Once the Content Server is set up, you can start uploading content and configuring settings related to your content.

The Menu

The menu, located on the left side, can be expanded or collapsed as needed. It provides access to all major functions of the Content Server, such as:

  • Content: Create and manage app content
  • Flashcards and Multiple Choice: Use either or both content formats as needed
  • Files: Upload and manage media files
  • Community: Functions to build a user community
  • In-App Purchases: Create content bundles and manage purchasable content
  • Administration: General settings for the Content Server

Configuring Modules

In Administration / Modules, you can select which modules will be available in your apps. The activated modules determine which content is accessible to your users. Changes to the module selection are applied immediately in the apps.

Categories

To organize content meaningfully in the Flashcards and Multiple Choice modules, you should create a suitable category structure. This structure should be logical and should be taken into account when configuring content bundles or in-app purchases. A well-structured category tree will vary depending on the project and can be created based on different criteria. It’s recommended to start with main categories, which can then be divided into subcategories to create a clear structure.

Note: The Flashcards and Multiple Choice modules share the same category structure.

Media

In the Files section, you can upload media files to be used in the apps. These files are also available to users offline. Ensure that all uploaded files are properly assigned.

Notes:

  • Apps only download files linked to available user content.
  • The media files and their copyright information are displayed to users in the app.

Content Bundles

Through the Bundles section, you can group content categories into packages. These packages can be offered as free teaser bundles or as paid in-app purchases. This feature lets you control which categories are available for Flashcards and Multiple Choice to your users. Teaser bundles are available to all users even without in-app purchases. If using in-app purchases, ensure that product IDs match those in the App Store or Google Play Store.
